This is what we will be making
The only thing you will need for this tutorial is Paint Shop Pro, get it here: www.jasc.com
(This tutorial is for intermediate to advanced PSP users and as such, it will not contain detailed instructions for every phase.)
Letīs begin!
The Lattice:
1. Open up a new image 500x500. Add a new layer, named Lattice and flood fill it with white. Go to Effects>Texture Effects>Weave. Use these settings:
2. With your MagicWand, touch one of the black squares, then go to Selections>modify>select similar. Hit your delete key.
3. Invert the selection. Go to Effects>Texture effects>sculpture. Use these settings:
4. Deselect. Go to Image, resize, uncheck "Resize all layers" and resize the image to 90%.
5. Go to Image, Rotate using following settings:
Direction: Left
Degrees: Free, 45
All Layers: UncheckedClick O.K. Now zoom in and use your Mover tool to move the lattice down and to the lower left corner and center one of the lathe strips like this:
Save your Image.
6. Duplicate the layer and with your Mover tool, move the new layer into the upper right section of the image. Be sure to line up the lattice sections so that the openings are all the same size (a super suggestion from DH).
7. Duplicate the layer again. Move it into the upper left corner line it up as you did in step 6.
8. Duplicate the layer one more time. On your layer palette, drag this layer down below the original lattice layer, then move it into the lower right corner and line it up. (You have to drag this layer below the original lattice layer because otherwise, the shading from the sculture tool will not match with the rest of the lattice.) Turn off layer 1. Merge Visible. Your image should look like this:
Save your Image.
Notice that the two sides are not exactly the same. Letīs fix that!
9. Double click on your selection tool
and enter these coordinates.
Press the Shift Key + "R" to crop the image to the selection. Now if you look at the sides of your lattice, both sides should look the same.
The Frame:
10. Double click on your selection tool a second time and use these coordinates:
Hit your Delete key. Do not deselect!
11. Invert your selection. Add a new layer and flood fill with White. On your Layer Palette, drag the new layer below the lattice layer. Working on the new white layer, repeat the sculpture effect from Step 3, but change the color to #FFFFFF Keep Selected!.
12. Set your background color at #61352A. Go to Effects>3D Effects>Chisel and use these settings.
Size: 5
Background: Checked
13. Go to Effects>3D Effects>Inner Bevel and use these settings:
Do not Deselect!
14. Activate the Lattice Layer. Go to Effects>3D Effects>Inner Bevel and use the same settings as in Step 13.
15. Deselect. Merge Visible. Repeat the Inner Bevel. Yes, while the frame is deselected :).
Note: If you need to resize the frame, donīt forget to Sharpen it afterwards or youīll lose a lot of the grain in the wood.
Your Frame is finished. At this point you can duplicate it and save the original in PSP format to use again. There are several ways to use it. You can activate the original layer (which is empty) and paste a picture of your choice there, or you could use your Magic Wand to select the center area and paste an image into that selection.
If you would like to use the frame often, save it in .psp format then, place it into your PSP Frames Folder.
Use the PSP Browserto locate it. Next, Right click on the frame and choose "Rename".
Change the file extension from .psp to .pfr
If you do this, the frame will be available to you by going to Image>Picture Frame and using the drop down box to locate it.
