Wings:
a. Add a new layer. Go to your Preset Shapes tool, and use the same settings as for the Thorax, but choose the Teardrop shape. Draw an elongated teardrop, then hold your cursor over the middle three squares until it turns into the rotate symbol, then turn your teardrop until it's horizontal, but pointing slightly upward like this:
b. Go to your layer palette, right click on the wing layer, and choose "convert to raster layer". Rename the layer "wing one". Repeat step 1b, but change the color to white, the Intensity to 35 and the elevation to 46.
c. Duplicate the wing layer and mirror the image. Use your mover tool to arrange the two wings over the upper middle of the thorax. Turn off the body layer, and merge visible. This is what we have so far:d. Select all, then click on the wings layer with the Magic Wand. Using the retouch tool with the following settings:
Blend the edge of the two wings where they overlap so the "seam" disappears.
e. Duplicate the wing layer, then flip the image and use your mover tool to position the new wing layer slightly below the first wing layer. Merge visible.
f. Lower the layer opacity to 37 and change the layer blend mode to "Difference".
Antenna:
Add a new layer. Set your background to Null. Select your Draw tool with these settings:
Freehand line
width 2
Vector unchecked
Antialias checked
close path unchecked,
Curve Tracking (middle tab) set to "8"Draw an antenna from the center of the head out to the side, then duplicate the layer, mirror the image, then position the antenna with the mover tool, like this:
Merge visible.
Finishing up: Add a new layer. Zoom in on your image and using your Draw tool with the same settings, draw several curved lines down the Dragonfly´s abdomen to simulate body sections, like this:
Using the same color, draw a curved line around the joining of the thorax to the body.
Your Dragonfly is finished!
Resize it and use it to decorate something or to make a picture with. I think it would look very pretty on my Floral Wreath ;-). I enjoyed writing this tut, I hope you had fun doing it....
I would like to give a very special "Thank You" to my two tutorial testers, Lynn and MaryAnne. They both found sections which needed further clarification. Their help was invaluable! Thank you Ladies!
